Mary Cassen Coleman Whitaker was born on January 28th 1956 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and died, surrounded by her loving family on December 10th, 2010. Cassie was beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Leslie Wayne Whitaker, their sons Coleman and Robert Whitaker, her mother Betty Coleman, her brother Louis Coleman and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Robert L. Coleman, grandparents Carl and Anne Shinn, John H. Coleman and Gertrude Coleman Chope. Cassie graduated from Tulsa Will Rogers High School and the University of Oklahoma. After leaving school Cassie taught school in the Dallas School system before moving to Wills Point, Texas where she raised her family and worked as the director of a pre-school program. Cassie was active in her community and her church, Russell Memorial Methodist Church. Cassie will be remembered by many for her gentle nature, her beautiful smile, and her uncomplaining forbearance, during many years of extreme pain. She was a blessing and an example to all. A memorial service will be held at Russell Memorial Methodist Church, Wills Point, Texas December 18th at 12:00pm. A graveside service will be held January 8th, 2011 at Newkirk, Cemetery, Newkirk, Oklahoma at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting friends may contribute in Cassie’s name to either Russell Memorial Methodist Church (201 South 4th Street Wills Point, Texas 75169-2634); the Bob Coleman Family Camp Fund at Kendall Whittier, Inc. (P.O. Box 4165 Tulsa, Oklahoma 74159-0165); or the American Cancer Society (4110 South 100th East, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74146-3637).
