Obituary for Dean Joseph Whalen

Dean Joseph Whalen, 66, of Awendaw, SC and former resident of Madison, WI died Sunday, May 27, 2007 at the Hospice of Charleston Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Born March 20, 1941 in Madison, Wisconsin, he was one of five children of William Thomas Whalen and Kathryn Sullivan Whalen. He was a graduate of Edgewood High School, Madison, WI. Mr. Whalen was the former owner of Whalen Transfer & Storage Co. in Madison, WI. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. SC.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be deeply missed by his wife Ann Van Thullenar Whalen; two sons: Jeffrey A. Whalen and wife Victoria, and Kevin B. Whalen, all of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters: Meghan K. Campbell and husband Benjamin of Summerville, SC and Sally F. Caldwell and husband Ryan of Isle of Palms; brother David P. Whalen of San Francisco, CA; sister, Mary Jean Iacovoni of Madison, WI; and six grandchildren: Amanda and Sarah Whalen, Davis, Ethan and Zander Caldwell, and Aidan Campbell. His parents and two brothers: William L. Whalen and Richard T. Whalen preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends Wednesday May 30, 2007 at 12:00PM at Stella Maris Catholic Church, Sullivan's Island. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00PM at the Church.
