KAI STEVEN LAMAR Columbus, Ohio Obituary

KAI STEVEN LAMAR

Kai Steven Lamar, age 16, completed his earthly mission on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 while in Costa Rica, Central America. Kai, aka “Bub”, “Bubby”, “Kaiser”, “the announcer dude” and especially “Grandpa”, loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; he began practicing his sermons at the age of 3 and was celebrating the completion of an awesome class trip in Costa Rica where he and his classmates helped at orphanages, served meals to indigenous villages, provided supplies for those in need, and painted a church and a Salvation Army installation. He was a faithful and active member of Apostolic Lighthouse Temple. He was also a member of the Columbus quartet group The Anointed Sons of God. He attended Patriot Preparatory Academy where he gave the morning announcements, was a member of the soccer team and C.O.R.E – a Christian based school club, and coached intramural soccer for the elementary students. Kai was also active in the school theater, playing the lead role in “The King and I.” He was a smart student who planned to attend college, majoring in psychology so he could help people. Although only 16, he had a light that drew all people, particularly young children. Kai was also an incredibly gifted musician who could spend hours playing the lead or bass guitar or listening to quartet singing and the blues. He played the trombone and the drums, but his guitar, Lucille, was his favorite. More than anything, Kai loved spending time with his family - from singing with his hero, his grandfather, to hysterically laughing at family game night. Kai simply loved life and loved God out loud. He is predeceased by his grandfather Robert Lamar Jr. and his beloved Uncle Robert McCaskill II. He leaves to cherish his memory parents, Kenneth and Shari Lamar, sister Khari, grandparents Beverly McCaskill, Julius and Michelle Gordon, and Pastor Robert and Pamela McCaskill, great-grandmothers Doctor Christine McCaskill, Christine Hodge, and Rosebud Lamar, aunts Rachelle McCaskill, Kyra Lamar Wyche, and Kellie Reevy, and uncle Kevin Lamar, Sr. He also leaves a large extended family including Godmommy, GAD, Dee-Dee, Aunt Lori, Uncle David, Brandi, PD, Paris, Kevin, Kylin, Kaia, Marvon, Kyndal, and Malayah. Kai also leaves his many great friends including Matt Spellman, Marquis Powell, Jessica Kohler, Vincent Jones, Sydney Howell, Margretta Wheigar, and the original “crew” Khafre Powell, Julienne Banks, and Bailey and Taylor Williams. A homegoing celebration will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2011 11:00am at First Church of God, 3480 Refugee Road, where the family will receive visitors at 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Kai Lamar Memorial Fund in care of any Fifth Third Bank, nationwide. Interment Green Lawn Cemetery.
