New Portland â€" Shirley (Maxim) Shaw, age 55, was taken peacefully in her sleep on Monday, January 26th surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with health issues to be with the Lord in Heaven. She was born on September 12, 1953 in Gardiner, the daughter of Clarence and Helena (Foster) Maxim and attended the Gardiner schools. She worked as a homecare provider for the elderly in the area. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, and spending time with family and close friends. She is survived by a son, William Shaw of Virginia, her longtime companion of 12 years, John McLain of New Portland, step-daughter, Lacy (McLain) Duval of New Portland, two brothers, Robert Maxim of Warren and Gerald Maxim and his wife Elaine of Hallowell, sisters, Sirita Horstman and her husband Robert of Winthrop and Deborah Poulin and her husband Andre of Monmouth. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, a son Alan Shaw, a brother, Michael Maxim and a sister Betty Waltam.
