Obituary for Ollie Inez Barkwell

Ollie Inez Carter Barkwell, a lifetime resident of Vero Beach, died peacefully at her home on September 22, 2009. Born March 11, 1928, the daughter of Clementine and James D. Carter, she was 81 years old.
Ollie was a long-time member of the 20th Avenue Church of God. She worked for many years in the citrus industry, and for eight years was a school bus driver for Indian River County Schools. She retired from Indian River Memorial Hospital in 1998 as an Administrative Control Clerk.
Ollie was preceded in death by her parents, her six siblings, her husband of 36 years, Paul Barkwell, and her youngest child, Jason Barkwell. She is survived by six children: Eugene Barkwell (wife Cheryl), Joyce McCall (husband Bill), John Barkwell, Janet Lyons, Joan Rooney and Jeffrey Barkwell, all of Vero Beach, as well as by her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Cox Gifford Funeral Home Friday, September 25 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 20th Avenue Church of God on Saturday, September 26th at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Jerry Shepherd officiating. There will be a luncheon reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
