Louis ÂSweet LouÂ Velez, 62, of Countryside, Vero Beach, FL died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.
Mr. Velez was born October 19, 1945 in New York City, New York and had lived in Rockland County, NY for 23 years before moving to Vero Beach in 2004 from Orange County, NY where he had lived for six years.
He had been known as ÂSweet LouÂ while a member and singer with the Del-Vikings from the 1970's to the present. The group was known for their hits ÂCome Go With MeÂ and ÂWhispering BellsÂ. Mr. Velez had been a District Manager for A. T. & T. before his retirement and was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. He had been a Sergeant in the US Army during the beginning of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years Anna M. Velez of Vero Beach, son Louis D. Velez of Port St. Lucie, FL, daughter Valerie Velez-Shields of Vero Beach, and a granddaughter Haley of Vero Beach.
He was predeceased by a step-brother Robert Arroyo.
Services: The family will receive friends 6-8 PM, Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A Mass will be celebrated 12:30 PM Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Ft. Pierce, FL.
