Melody Marcheta Gates, 61, of Donley Rd., Waterville, NY, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, NY.
She was born October 18, 1949 in Sutton, WV, a daughter of the late Russell R. and Margie R. Casto Carpenter, and received her education in local schools. Melody was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps from 1970 until 1972 when she was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal. On June 10, 1995, she married Bruce Gates, her best friend and loving companion of 22 years in Whitestown, NY. Melody had worked at AFSA (Bank of America) in Utica. She was a dedicated, family oriented person whose life revolved around her family. Spending time with her children and grandchildren was her favorite pastime. She also enjoyed playing video games.
Surviving are her husband, Bruce; her children, Bruce W., Jr. and Valerie Gates, Fulton, NY; Shawn and Erin Gates, Graham, NC; Erin and John Ulrich, Yorkville, NY; sisters and brother-in-law, Judith Crocker, Atlanta, GA; Sandra Fuller, Lynchburg, VA; Vally and Darrell Rose, Nettie WV; brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and Vivian Carpenter, San Diego CA; David and Connie Carpenter, Gates, NC; 10 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by three sisters, Betty Sue Shoemaker, Dawn Smith and Frances Parmelve; and three brothers, Jimmy, Jacob and Jerry Carpenter.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, August 29, 2011 from the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 East Main St., Waterville, NY, followed by interment with military honors in the Fairview Cemetery, Bridgewater, NY.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-7 pm.
