Richard Yancey completed his Earth mission on September 29, 2011. He was born in Helena, Arkansas in 1927 and could trace his ancestors to the first Yanceys in America in 1642 and to the namesake of Yanceyville and Yancey County, North Carolina. At age 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and upon discharge enrolled in Louisiana College in Pineville, He went on to graduate from East Texas Baptist College in Marshall and Southwestern Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth. he was pastor of churches in Louisiana, Texas and Colorado. While serving as spiritual advisor at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, he was inspired to join the military again. In the U.S. Army he was stationed in Virginia and conducted daily worship services at the Pentagon; in Vietnam he ministered to combat troops and received the Bronze Star; and after completing a residency at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, he was sent to Germany to be director of alcohol and drug counseling centers. Major Chaplain Yancey retired from military duty after serving in Ft. Huachuca with the 8/40th Ar. Bn. USAR. In Tucson he was director of Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime (TASC) before retiring from the Pima County Adult Probation Dept. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Delgado; daughters, Elizabeth Yancey and Yvonne Grace-Draman; sons, Bart Yancey and Kevin Grace, and grandsons, Travis, Zeus, Connor and Levi. To celebrate his life he asked that we pray for love and peace throughout the world. Funeral service and interment of cremains will be at the family plot in Forrest City, Arkansas, alongside his parents and two sisters. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.
