Marie Kavanagh

Marie H. (Horning) Kavanagh, 93, of Pt. Pleasant, passed away at her home on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. Mrs. Kavanagh was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and moved to East Orange, where she lived for 50 years, before moving to Point Pleasant 26 years ago. She taught math in Millburn High School, St. Vincent’s Academy, Newark, and Gov. Livingston High School, Berkeley Heights, before retiring from full-time teaching in 1983. For many years thereafter, she was involved in mathematic home instruction for the Manasquan School District, until her retirement this past June. Mrs. Kavanagh was an active member of her parishes, both at Holy Name, East Orange, and Sacred Heart, Bay Head, and belonged to the Rosary Society. Mrs. Kavanagh was predeceased by her husband, Charles F. Kavanagh, and her sisters, Alyce Guiliano and Marjorie Schwester. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Charles (Mary) Kavanagh, Alice (James) Donadio, Patricia (Robert) Galantucci, and Marie (John) Mercun. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Charles (Katie) Kavanagh, Edward Kavanagh, Christopher Kavanagh, Robert Galantucci, Daniel Galantucci, Ryan Finnesey, Jamie Donadio, Kristianne Donadio, Elissa Rickmers, Ariane Duarte, Rory Donadio, Caroline Murray, and John Mercun. In addition, she is survived by her great-grandchildren, Caroline Kavanagh, Charles Kavanagh, Sean Kavanagh, Rory Duarte, and Jolie Duarte, as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Friday, October 14, 2011, from 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head, on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 10 A.M., followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, NJ, 07702, would be appreciated.
