SIMS, Kaitlyn, 22, of Longmont, died November 28, in Longmont. Kate was born on April 3, 1989 in Lubbock, Texas to Philip Sims and Laurie Bowerman. The family moved throughout Texas before coming to Longmont in 2004. Kate graduated from Silver Creek High School in 2007 as co-salutatorian. She also lettered in both softball and track. She set records in the long jump and triple jump, which still stand. Kate had many skills, loves and interests. A voracious reader with a thirst for knowledge, she could be found to read almost anything to help her learn and expand her mind. A musical talent as well, she self taught herself to play guitar and expressed herself through many forms of art. She had become an eloquent writer of stories, prose and songs. Kate attended two years at the University of Texas, before transferring to the University of Colorado to be closer to family. She graduated with distinction from CU this spring with a degree in English. Surviving are her mother Laurie Smith and fiancé Monty Johnson of Longmont; her father Phil Sims and his wife Debra of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; three sisters Kirsten Sims of Boulder, Kamilia Burks of Seattle, Washington and Lillie Sims of Coeur d’Alene; grandparents Dale and Kay Bowerman of Austin, TX and Charlotte Sims-Karr and Price Karr of Bella Vista, Arkansas as well as many other family members and friends who love her very much. A cremation has been entrusted to the Howe Mortuary. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 2 at LifeBridge Christian Church in Longmont.
