Max Weagle

AUBURN-Max R. Weagle, Sr., 85, a lifelong resident of Auburn, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester. His wife, Virginia A. (Courteau) Weagle died in 2003. He leaves his seven children, Allan P. Weagle and his wife Sandi of Auburn, Wynn S. DuVernay and her husband Peter of Sturbridge, Dan R. Weagle and his wife Sonya of Charlton, Charlie S. Weagle and his wife JoAnn of Oxford, Max R. Weagle, Jr. and his companion Brenda Tedeschi of Leominster, Joan A. Bisceglia and her husband Pat of Auburn, and Paula C. Griffiths and her husband Kevin of Danielson, CT; his sister, Irene Parenteau of Auburn; his brothers, Gary Weagle of Rutland and Carroll Weagle of Auburn and Florida; his 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Laurie and Henry Weagle, and by his sister, Ruth West. He was born in Auburn, son of the late Charles S. and Helen I. (Weagle) Weagle and has lived here all of his life. Max was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the US Naval as an aviation radioman and gunner on a B 24 bomber. Following the war, Max returned to the area and began his long career in maintenance and repair, beginning at the former M.J. Whittall Manufacturing, then at the Standard Foundry, where he was the maintenance foreman, and retiring from the Wyman-Gordon Company, Worcester plants maintenance department. He was an avid golfer, playing at least once a week, and was an accomplished gardener, growing and cultivating most anything. To Max, family was most important. He loved the time he spent with all of them, especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoying and sharing in all of their accomplishments. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, December 19th from 4-7 PM at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 20th with a prayer service in the funeral home, followed by burial, with Military Honors, at the Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Memorial donations instead of flowers may be sent to Veterans, Inc. (www.veteransinc.org), 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
