John Ebersole Obituary

John P. Ebersole, 80, of Breezewood, passed away at home on Friday, December 30, 2011. He was born August 26, 1931 in Clear Spring, Maryland, a son of the late John A. Ebersole and Lucy Ann (Gordon) Ebersole He is survived by his son, John F. Ebersole, of Big Cove Tannery a daughter, Mary Ann Head and husband Mike Head, of Hedgesville, WV a daughter in law Debbie S. Ebersole, his companion, Naomi Smith, 6 grandchildren, Chris Ebersole, and wife Melanie, of Big Cove Tannery Scott Ebersole, of Big Cove Tannery Tony Shives, of Williamsport, MD Johnny Ebersole and wife Megan, of Shippensburg Jenny Betts, of Lebanon Laurence Ebersole, of Big Cove Tannery and 11 blessed great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing away by 2 brothers, Clarence Ebersole and Paul Ebersole. Mr. Ebersole was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving as a Sergeant with Headquarters Section 3400th Army Service Unit between 1950 and 1953, receiving the Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the Occupation Medal Japan, and the Good Conduct Medal. After returning home, John was employed as a truck driver for many years, also working at H. B. Mellott in Warfordsburg. He then worked as an automobile mechanic at Fox Chevrolet in Mercersburg and for Shaw Motor Company of Hancock until retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Everett American Legion Post #8, a lifetime member of the Breezewood VFW Post #8333 and of the Sideling Hill Sportsmen’s Association, and throughout his lifetime enjoyed racing stock and sprint cars and many different tracks, including Hagerstown, Port Royal and Bedford, and also started driving a sprint car for Walter Dyer in 1967 and for several years thereafter. A memorial service with Military Honors will be held Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Hancock United Methodist Church, 168-170 West Main Street, Hancock, Maryland 21750. Friends may call at the church Sunday from 1:00 pm until hour of service, and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com.
