Mrs. Aune Peterson

Aune Kyllikki Peterson (Hakola) age 94 years passed away on October 21, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Care Group in Thunder Bay. She was born on February 25, 1914 in Fort William to Anshelm and Wilma Hakola, and moved with her family to Mokomon in Conmee Township in 1915. Following the death of her parents, she moved in with Arvid and Hilda Maki in 1925 and later worked in their store and post office until she married Ensio Peterson in 1931. They had one daughter, Eleanor. Aune was employed as a Cooke and then Cook at various bush camps over the years. She retired from Domtar in 1971 after working with them for 21 years. Aune was an active member of First Baptist Church and a longtime volunteer with the Port Arthur General Hospital and then the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. She will be fondly remembered by many friends who enjoyed coffee and sweet bread at her kitchen table. Her memory will live on in gardens around Thunder Bay which have become home to cuttings and seedlings from her lovingly tended plants. Aune’s hands were never idle, busy creating slippers, Afghans, doilies, paintings, cards, and stamp collection. Survived by her daughter Eleanor Pendziwol, Nanaimo, grandchildren Donna Pendziwol-MacMillan (Mike), Whitehorse, Gary Pendziwol (Linda), Nanaimo, Deborah Colston (Howard), Seagrave, Richard Pendziwol (Jean E), Thunder Bay and Cindy Ray (Brad), Richmond; great grandchildren Leigh, Moriah and Jodie MacMillan, Richard and Lora Pendziwol, Devin, Chad and Naomi Colston, Erin, Colin and Ryan Pendziwol, and Chloe Ray, also nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Ensio Peterson, her parents, her sister Irja (Hakola) Levanen, a brother in infancy, son-in-law Metro Pendziwol. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 11:30 AM in First Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Pacholczak officiating. Private interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery. EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma in care of arrangements. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation or the charity of your choice.
