Mrs. Gertrude Ross Obituary

Gertrude Bertha Ross (nee Lea) has now joined the love of her life Bill “Scotty”, who passed away in 1993. Gert/Trudy, a lifetime resident of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully at the age of 92 with her family by her side on Friday, July 16, 2010 in Versa Care Centre. Gert was an honourary member of St. Thomas' Altar Guild and St. Luke's Altar Guild and a member of The Daughters of England Lodge. Earlier, she was active in sports, swimming, speed skating, skiing and bowling. (Willport Realty and the Ladies League, until age 85) Trudy was known for the knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, making mittens for the needy and gifts for friends. She loved to bake and make desserts for family and friends. She made gingersnap cookies for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great pies/pastry for all including church teas. She was nicknamed” Baking Granny”. She and Bill enjoyed years of camping at Birch Beach and having their grandchildren and niece Joanne and nephew Rob join in the good times. Gert is survived by her daughter Roberta (Craig) England; son Spencer of Drayton Valley, Alberta; brother George Lea of B.C.; grandchildren Don Cameron, Kim Jewett (Jim), Sherrie Cameron (Gregg), Scott Ross, Shannon Hutchinson (Rick) and Kirsti England (Richard); great-grandchildren Donald, Brittany, Jamie (Lindsay), Michael (Christine), Rob (Kathleen), Scott (Renee), Logan, Nikolas, Tyler, Ashley and Colton and great-great-grandchildren Cadin, Tyson, Arianna, Tamara, Kailey, Ryder, Kassandra, Isaiah and Julian. She was predeceased by her husband Bill; parents Charles and Bertha Lea; brothers Syd (In action – WWII) and Norm and his wife Phyl; sisters-in-law Ina Rendall and Mary Lea and daughter-in-law Sandy Ross. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Gertrude Ross will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in St. Luke's Anglican Church with the Rev. Judie Cooper officiating. Private interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Altar Guild of St. Luke's Church. She lived for the joy and fun of her children and family.
