Edward Farrar Obituary

Edward Libbey Farrar, 76, of Pemaquid, ME and Rotonda West, FL, passed away on March 1st 2012 in Florida. Born on October 3rd 1935 in Washington, DC, he was the son of Deane S. and Ruth (Libbey) Farrar. Edward grew up in Maryland, graduating from McKinley High School in Washington, DC. While in high school, he was a member of the choir and sang at the National Christmas tree lighting for then President Truman. He went on to attend, and graduate from, the University of Maine in 1957, where he also received his certification in Pulp & Paper in 1958. While at the University of Maine, he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and received numerous academic awards. After school, he went to work at Ingersoll-Rand Impco Division in Nashua, NH, where he remained until his retirement in 1991. He spent his last 10 years there as the Engineering Manager. He was a member of the Air National Guard, and was deployed to active duty for the Berlin Air Crisis. He was also a 32nd degree member of the Masons at lodges both in Maine and New Hampshire. He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Nashua, NH and acted as moderator, deacon and choir member there. In Maine, he was an active member of the Pemaquid Harbor Club, acting as treasurer there for 37 years. He was also a member of the Friends of Colonial Pemaquid and the Harrington Meeting House. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed his time in Maine. He also loved sailing and woodworking. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Cecil C Farrar. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marion Sawtelle Farrar; children, Stephen Farrar of Topsham, ME (his children, Christopher, Nicholas and Samuel), Cindy Taylor of Lisbon, NH (her children, Jennifer and Sara), Dave Farrar and his wife Jannine of Deerfield, NH (their children, Amy and Erik, and Ashley, Lauren and Kathryn “Katie” Mann) and Susan Watterson and her husband Brett of Rotonda West FL (and their children, Brandyn and Katia). A service will be announced, and held, in early June. He will be laid to rest in the Harrington Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of Colonial Pemaquid or to the Harrington Meeting House, in care of the Pemaquid Historical Association.
