The price of these selections also includes the funeral home’s care of the flowers after the funeral and the delivery to the family or facility of choice where they can be rearranged and enjoyed by others for a longer period.

Memorial Candles

A Perpetual Tribute

The solitude and quiet peace of a flickering candle has long been a symbol of remembrance. Each candle lit will remain lit within this memorial website for the period you select. Your thoughtful gesture will be captured both in the candle as well as listed in perpetuity within the tributes section.

Memorial Trees

Circle of Life

In today’s changing world with climate change and environment concerns, “Honoring a Life” allows for family and friends to plant a memorial tree in honor of their loved one and friend. The purchase of a tree creates a beautiful permanent record on the Honoring a Life website, www.honoringalife.org. Each tree is planted through the efforts of Forestry Services throughout North America who determine where the greatest needs for reforestation are. Once planted, the geographical location where the tree is planted will be added to the record. A beautiful card is also sent to the family signifying your thoughtful gesture.

Financial Support

A Helping Hand

The time surrounding a death can often bring unexpected final expenses for the family far beyond the funeral itself. We are pleased to offer the ability for friends and relatives to financially support the family during their time of loss as an alternative to flowers and other sympathy gestures.

Obituary for Delores B. Poulson

Delores Bailey Poulson, the third child of three children, was born August 22, 1932 to the late Earl Frank and Mary Alma Winslow Bailey. She was born and reared in Worcester County, Maryland in the city of Pocomoke. Delores was called to her eternal reward on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at United Medical Center in Washington, DC.

“Dee”, as she was affectionately known, received her education in the Worcester County Public schools, graduating from the former Worcester High School in Snow Hill, Maryland. She was the first of her siblings to attend college, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Junior High Education from Maryland State Teacher’s College, now known as Bowie State University.

Delores was reared in a Christian home, and embraced her religious principles at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Pocomoke City, Maryland, where she became a member as a child and remained loyal until her passing. She was very active in the Church, from youth to adulthood, always participating in various activities. Delores was a dedicated Communion Steward at Mt. Zion for over 20 years, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. On February 20, 1994, she became a member of Jones Memorial in Washington, DC. While there she served as a mentor at the Davis School, as a Communion Steward, Greeter, Bulletin Board Aide, a Bible Study participant, and a United Methodist Woman. She was totally committed to her Churches and her Sororities.

Delores was employed by the Anne Arundel County Board of Education in Annapolis, Maryland. She began her teaching career at Bristol Elementary School in Bristol, Maryland. When integration began she was transferred to Davidsonville Elementary. When asked about that experience, she stated, “It was not an easy task, but I was well prepared physically, educationally, and spiritually.” She was later transferred to the new Central Middle School in Edgewater, Maryland and in 1989 was honored at the Capitol Centre for 37 years of dedicated service to the education of her people.

Delores was a life member of the Worcester Junior and Senior Joint Association, Inc., Life Member of Ladies Auxiliary to the Foreign Wars #10048, a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. – Delta Zeta Chapter, National Education Association-Retired. and Maryland School Personnel Association-Retired. She enjoyed reading, travelling, and sending greeting cards of any occasion to people when they least expected to receive a card; sending cards became her ministry. Her favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.”

As a child, Delores was teased and called “Lefty” because she was left-handed. She was also teased because of her mustache and heavy eyebrows; but Delores knew she was wonderfully made by God and was joyful. She was a shining example of faithfulness, cheerfulness, and generosity.

Delores was devoted to her teaching career and her wonderful marriage of 43 years to the late Claude Edward Poulson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Bailey Spence, and a brother, Stanley Earle Bailey.

Left to cherish her beautiful memories are: a loving niece and her husband, Gloria and Edgar H. Cohen of Harrisburg, PA; adopted daughters, Paule Griffin of Seattle, WA and Dianne Newlin and husband Donald Sr. of Willingboro, NJ; two grand-nephews, Edgar H. Cohen, III of Millersburg, PA and Zachary T. Cohen of New Castle, DE; two great-nieces, Ashley and Elon Cohen; one great-nephew, Matthew Cohen; aunt, Rose King of Colorado; uncle, Herbert King of Philadelphia, PA; an adopted sister, Jean Allen of Pocomoke, MD; godson, Prentiss Ginn of Pocomoke, MD; three goddaughters, Joy M. Vess of Baltimore, MD, Mernita Hinmon of VA, and Dorothy Martin of Washington, DC; devoted friends, Dale Harger and Mary Isaac;
And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted neighbors, and friends.
