Doris Riddle Wilson, age 85, of 225 Parsley Street, Unicoi, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, August 6, 2011, at her home. Mrs. Wilson was born November 25, 1925 in Unicoi County. She was the daughter of the late Isaac and Mae Sawyer Riddle. Mrs. Wilson was a longtime devoted member of Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church. She was a fifty-year member of the Erwin and Unicoi Eastern Star Chapter # 276. Mrs. Wilson graduated from Appalachian Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Colonial Hill Nursing Home from 1972 until 1974, Appalachian Christian Village from 1974 until 1976 and was the Director of Nursing at Asbury Center from 1978 until 1985. She worked as the third shift supervisor for Erwin Health Care Center from 1987 until her retirement in 1992. Mrs. Wilson was the owner of Wilson's Grocery for many years. Other than parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Guy Wilson, one sister, Maude Riddle and her brother, Clyde James "Fritz" Riddle. Mrs. Wilson is survived by her son, Richard Wilson, Unicoi; grandson, Issac Wilson and wife, Lori, Unicoi; granddaughter, Darlus Davis and husband, Dwayne, Gray; three great grandchildren, Dalton Davis, Gray, Amanda Vanhoy, Unicoi, and James Vanhoy, Camp Lejeune, NC; one sister, Mildred Ballard, Hamlet, NC; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Elane Barber, Hamlet, NC; several cousins including a special cousin, Earlene Robinson; and many friends including a special friends, Betty Ann Garland, Beulah Briggs, Unicoi and Frances Horton, Erwin. The family would also like to say a special thank you to Caris Hospice for the care and friendship given to Mrs. Wilson and her family. A Celebration of Mrs. WIlson's Life will be held at 10.00 A.M. Wednesday, August 10, 2011, in the chapel of Unicoi Funeral Home with Reverend Garry Edwards officiating. Inez Chandler will provide special piano music and Renee Garland will provide special vocal selections. Interment will follow in Peterson Cemetery, Unicoi. Active pallbearers will be James Vanhoy, Andrew Lingerfelt, Bill Gaines, Doug Beebe, Wade Sluder, Randy Correll and Ricky Ledford. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Osborne, Doyle Jones, and Donnie Britt . The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Unicoi Funeral Home. An Eastern Star memorial service for Mrs. Wilson will be held following the visitation at 8:00 P.M. by Erwin and Unicoi Eastern Star Chapter # 276.
