Mary Virginia Lloyd Rainey, "Mimi", 88, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Rainey, who was a lifelong resident of Kannapolis, was the daughter of the late John Cleveland and Madge Elizabeth Lloyd. Mrs. Rainey is survived by her children, Rusty Rainey and his wife, Margaret; Judy Rainey Constantine and her husband, Jim of Atlanta, Georgia; Alan Rainey and his wife, Yong Nim of Omaha, Nebraska; and her brother, Ralph Lloyd and his wife, Mary Ann of Seabrook Island, SC. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Paige Rainey Thompson, Anna Rainey, Blair Rainey, Patrick Rainey, Brian Constantine and Jim Constantine, and two great grandchildren, Kara and Luke Thompson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Lloyd and Cleo Lloyd, a sister, Johnsie Stiller; and her husband, Harris A. Rainey, Sr. Mrs. Rainey was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Ruth Kale Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Crafty Ladies, friends and members of the church who support the church through annual fundraising events. Mrs. Rainey enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a gifted and enthusiastic gardener who loved to share the fruits of her labor with family and friends. Following a private burial, the family will receive friends at 10:15 on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kannapolis. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 11 a.m. The Reverend Judy White will officiate. The family extends its sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and volunteers at NorthEast Medical Center and the staff at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 416 East 1st Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
