George Tesnow

George Donald Tesnow, 87, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Oaks of Brevard. He was born May 21, 1924 in Pembroke, New York to the late Charles and Ola Tesnow. Mr. Tesnow graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Science. Following his graduation he played professional baseball for the Chicago White Sox and Brooklyn Dodger organizations. George and Louise Ferguson were married on McCormick Field at home plate on August 20, 1953. He was a player and coach for the Ecusta’s Industrial Baseball League. He was active in Little League Baseball of Transylvania County for many years. He is a member of the Professional Baseball Players of America. Mr. Tesnow served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II in Europe. While there he completed 65 combat missions over Germany. He was bombardier in the B-26 Marauder called “Flack-Bait” which is on display in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. He also flew in the Battle of the Bulge and D-Day. Mr. Tesnow was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brevard and was plant manager of Ecusta Paper Manufacturing. He is survived by his wife, Louise Ferguson Tesnow and three sons, Terry and wife Kellie Tesnow of Greensboro, Chris and his wife Stephanie Tesnow of Rosman, and Greg and his wife Manee Tesnow of Statesville. Also surviving are two sisters, Naomi Schoenthal of Akron NY and Pauline Uglesich of Akron, NY and Spring Hill, Florida. Mr. Tesnow leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. Moody Connolly Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Doug Tankersley . The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memories. Serving as Pallbearers will be Brandon Clark, Blake Tesnow, Neil Tesnow, Eric Tesnow, Brandon Owen, and Brad Tesnow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to charity of your choice.
