Lydia Bugbee Obituary

Latham – Lydia Grindle Bugbee, 94, died on Monday, April 30, 2012, in the comfort of her own home, following a lengthy illness. A native of Maine, Lydia was born there, in Otter Creek, on November 2, 1917 and was the daughter of the late Freeman and Jennie Davis Grindle. She was a graduate of the University of Southern Maine at Gorham and of Boston University, Class of 1949, where she received a master’s degree in sociology. A resident of Latham since 1954, Lydia was employed, as a social worker, with Family and Children’s Service of the Capital Region from 1961 until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the Newtonville United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Colonie Senior Citizens. She was the beloved wife of the late Merrill T. Bugbee who died in 1983 and the dear sister of the late Beulah McFarland, Ida Ahlblad, Freeman Grindle, Jr. and Donald Grindle. She is survived by her cherished daughter, Bonnie L. Bugbee of Cohoes as well as several loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 3 pm in the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham where the Reverend Steven Smith, Pastor of the Newtonville United Methodist Church will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service and may also visit with Lydia’s family on Thursday from 1 until 3 pm, prior to the service. A private cremation will follow and inurnment will take place in Memory Gardens, Colonie. In lieu of customary remembrances, donations to the Center for Disability Services, 314 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208, in memory of Lydia G. Bugbee, would be appreciated.
