Duane E. Couey, 79, Independence, Mo. died March 26, 2004 at Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 7:30 pm, Wed., March 31, 2004 at the East 39th Street Community of Christ Church. Committal services will be private. Visitation will be 4:30-7:30 pm, Wed. at the church. Duane was born Sept. 13, 1924, to Ralph and Hazel (Lindsey) Couey. He graduated from Boys Technical High School in Milwaukee, WI, and served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He began his ministry in 1954 with the R.L.D.S. (Community of Christ) Church. Through his distinguished career he served as a missionary, President of the Los Angeles Stake, member of the Council of 12 Apostles, member of the First Presidency and Presiding Evangelist. He gave ministry to church members in North America, Australia, Africa, Europe, South America, and the Orient. Preceding him in death were his parents, step-mother, first wife, Edith R. Couey, and second wife, Margaret R. Couey, brother, Robert Couey, sister, Maxine Dudley. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia & Geoffrey Henshaw, Indep. MO; son and daughter-in-law, Ralph & Cheryl Couey, Columbia, MO; two step-daughters and their husbands, Freda & Steven Clendenin, Paris, TN; Cathy & Danny Davis, Lumberton, NC and their families; sister, Yvonne Briski, Neenah, WI; and grandchildren, Robert & Yukyung Couey, Honolulu, HI; Nikomi, Crystal, and Jamielyn Couey, Columbia, MO. The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care given by Rosewood Health Center; especially the staff of 3 South and Good Sheperd Hospice.
