Charles J. Kerber, Chief Warrant Officer, US Army, Retired, died in North Canton, Ohio on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at the age of 89. He was the beloved husband of the late Romilda I Kerber (nee Molengraft), dear father of Frank (Melanie) Kerber, U.S. Department of State, Belgium, and Darlene (Robert) Stricker of North Canton, Ohio, loving grandfather of Brandon Kerber, Carolyn Stricker, Jacqueline (Dominic) Cursio and Jennifer Stricker, great grandfather of Isabella Cursio, brother of the late Irene Dinsmore.
Charles was born in Cincinnati on April 26, 1916 and attended Elder and Western Hills High Schools. In his teen years he joined the National Guard and volunteered for the U.S. Army He saw combat during World War II in the Pacific theater as well as in Korea. He received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. Upon retirement from the military after 30 years of service in 1960, he worked with the U.S Postal Service for twenty years. He was a life member of St. Antoninus Church.
Charles was an active member in many organizations. He was a life member of the 25th Infantry Division Veterans Assoc., 37th Infantry Division Veterans Assoc., Guadalcanal Veterans Assoc., Cincinnati Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars, H. F. Grote Jr. Post 507 American Legion, Charles Gailey Post 7249 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Past Sergeant-At-Arms and Vice Commander of George Budde Post 507 American Legion, Vice President Cincinnati Chapter 147th Infantry Regimental Combat Team Veterans Assoc., US Army Warrant Officers Assoc., Charter Member, former Trustee and Historian of Green Township Post 10380 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cheviot Police Assoc., Oldys But Goodys Social Club, Honorary Life Member of Mother Seton Council 3376 Knights of Columbus.
