James D. Layfield, 63 of
6051 Hall Hill Road,passed away peacefully Sunday (Feb.29, 2004) at his home.
Born in Bradford,PA.,March 12, 1940,a son of Dean and Alice Madison Layfield, Jim came to reside in Canisteo early in hislife, and returned to settle in Canisteoin 1986. He received a degree in ceramic engineering from Alfred University in 1964, and completed postgraduate work at Case Western Universityin Cleveland, Ohio.He was employed at the LaMont Geological Observatory(At Columbia University) in Research andDevelopment, the Air PreHeater in Wellsville; asAssistant Professor in Research at the University of Hawaii; Farro Corp., in Cleveland, Ohio; Baker Perkins in Michigan,and later at Morrison-Knudsen and Alstom in Hornellprior to his retirement in 2000.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, 2 sister, Donna Layfield Dickinson and Betty LayfieldGlosser as well as his brother, Danny Layfield.
