Anton Somogyi Obituary

Tony was what everyone knew him as. He was born on the family farm in the Saxon Hill district on May 11, 1926 to Anton and Mary (nee Szucs) Somogyi. He was the second of the three Somogyi brothers. The three boys were very close and worked together all their lives. Tony loved his cows and he could tell you which calf belonged to which cow, and if he didn’t know, he always carried a little book and he could look it up as he had them all marked in this little black book. Tony was a hard-working, kind-hearted brother. He hardly ever went anywhere, but enjoyed people coming to the farm and having a cup of coffee. Of course Steve would always have chocolate cake. The hardest time for Tony was getting old and retiring. He carried on very well after Steve moved to the nursing home. This was very new to him as he had never looked after the bills or done any cooking. With the help of a very good friend, Gord Steffen, his sister Margaret, his nephew Albert and friend Marnie he was happy and managed very well until he got sick. The last five months were tough for Tony, but he never complained for he never had any pain. Tony passed away on June 5, 2008 at the Yorkton Regional health Centre. Tony, we will all miss and love you very much and will carry you in our hearts forever. Tony was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Mary (nee Szucs) Somogyi; two brothers and one sister in infancy; brother, Mike in 2004; brother Steve in 2007; and brother-in-law, Joe Potyondi in 2005. He leaves to cherish his memory: sisters, Theresa Potyondi of Melville and Margaret (Roger) Armstrong of Whitewood; nephews and nieces, Theresa’s family: Albert (Marnie) of Regina, Allan (Kathy) of High River, AB, Ernie (friend, Debbie) of Bienfait and Beatrice (Randy) Augustine of High River, AB; Margaret and Roger’s son, Dean (friend, Michelle) of Whitewood; great nieces and great nephews: Darcy Potyondi of Regina, Blaine (Tanya) Potyondi of Calgary, AB; Donelle (Jaret) Elliott of Calgary, AB; Curtis (Tanya) Potyondi of High River, AB and their sons, Joshua and Matthew (Tony’s great-great-nephews) and Derek and Dustin Augustine of High River, AB; as well as other relatives and many friends.
