Alfred Hollinger

Alfred Daniel Hollinger, son of Elsa (nee Platz) and Valentine Hollinger, was born on January 11, 1939 on the farm at Fenwood, Saskatchewan. Alfred attended school at Koenigsberg, Fenwood and Melville. He then went to work for Redenbach's Dairy and then Bell's Dairy as a milkman with horse and wagon.In 1957, Alfred drove for Mainline Taxi for a couple of years, then worked for various farmers and construction companies, including working on the addition to the St. Peter's Hospital in Melville. He also worked for paving companies by Regina, as well as putting in water and sewer for farmers by Balgonie. In 1962 he bought Mainline Taxi, but sold it in 1967 and once again went to work for construction companies and farmers in the Melville area. Alfred sold Rawleigh products as well as Watkins for many years. He loved meeting and talking with people. Travelling to see different parts of Canada and the United States was also something he enjoyed. His camera was usually with him, as he had a passion for photography and film for many years. In 1969, Alfred went to barber school in Regina and graduated on July 25, 1970. That fall he opened Shamrock Barber Shop in Yorkton until 1986. In 1990, he opened Alf's Barber Shop in Melville and continued until his health left him unable to barber. Alfred met Rose Sies and she was his companion until her passing. After being in the hospital for over 2 months, he became a resident of Parkside Extendicare Home in Regina until his passing on June 19, 2010.Alfred was predeceased by his mother Elsa, on December 19, 1981; his father Valentine, on January 23, 1990; his brother Richard, on May 25, 2000; his brother Gordon, on September 21, 2004; his nephew Robert Lesperance, on May 21, 2005; his nephew Mitchell Hollinger, on May 6, 2006; his sister Emma, on December 19, 2008; his infant brother; and his fiance, Rose Sies on March 12, 2010. Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are four brothers and three sisters Edward (Shirley) Hollinger of Melville, Dorothy (Vern) Hack of Melville, Clifford Hollinger of Fenwood, Elfrieda (Mike) Potoroka of Goodeve, David (Sadie) Hollinger of Duff, Alice (Wes) Rathgeber of Yorkton, and Gilbert (Debbie) Hollinger of Melville; his god-daughters, Corinne Lesperance and Colleen Hitchens, Rose's sons, Steven (Kyla) Sies and Leslie (Naomi) Sies; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
