Jake Weisbrod Melville, Saskatchewan Obituary

Jake Weisbrod

Jake Weisbrod of Melville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at the age of 85 years. Jacob Rudolph was born August 31, 1926 to Conrad and Mary (nee Hasman) Weisbrod and lived on the family farm near Disley, SK. He attended rural North Plain School. Jake met and married his first wife, Eileen, and they were blessed with three sons and a daughter, Dale, Laura, Glenn and Garth. Jake and Eileen farmed at Disley then moved to Regina where Jake was employed with Sears. They then relocated to Kipling, Saskatchewan and farmed there. Jake and Eileen also called Indian Head home for a while before settling in Melville where Jake operated the salvage yard. After the passing of Eileen, Jake married Elsie and obtained and extended family.Jake enjoyed all aspects of life. He was a hard worker and instilled this trait into his children and grandchildren. He was always resourceful, using whatever he could rig up to accomplish the task he was working on. When Jake wasn’t working you could find him following his many interests. He like putting together puzzles and was good at finding the right piece when others had given up. Jake often played cards with his sisters, brothers, in-laws and friends and would often say “That’s Jake” when he would score points or win. One would also find Jake reading the paper each day to try to keep up with the news, weather, the next auction sale he wanted to attend or, of course, looking for that rare ‘63 Chrysler. Dancing and listening to good polka or waltz music were enjoyable parts of his life. Jake loved the sound of a button accordion and of course his feet would follow to suit the beat of the music. He always tried to pass on a little piece of wisdom to others by telling a story with a little of his sense of humour always thrown in. Jake will be remembered fo his special laugh; one would always know where he was just by listening! Sooner or later he could be heard laughing at a good story or joke that someone had told him. And everyone knew where Jake was at 5:00 o’clock...it was two-finger “Rum Time”!Jake was predeceased by parents; his first wife Eileen in 1990; an infant brother Philip and brother John Weisbrod. He is survived by his wife, Elsie; his children Dale, Laura (Mervin Weselowski), Glenn (Debbie) and Garth (Myrna); his step-children, Iona (Phoebe), Eleanor (Dave Low), Rose (Doug Solomon); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters, Irene Wagner and Rose Wagner; a brother Karl (Elsie) Weisbrod; and a number of nieces and nephews.
