Joseph Panek

AUGUSTA, MAINE Joseph J.”Joe” Panek, age 75, died peacefully at his home following a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. He was born in Augusta, ME on June 9, 1937 the son of the late Joseph A. and Stella (Slonina) Panek. Joe was a graduate of Cony High School and had been a communicant of St. Michael’s Parish. He had been employed by Daniel’s Motor Parts which later became CarQuest, for over 40 years. Joe was a dedicated member of the Fox Glen Snowmobile Club in Augusta where he volunteered countless hours, as snowmobiling was one of his greatest passions. Along with snowmobiling, Joe’s love for car racing started when he was a school boy and continued throughout his life. Whether it was Saturday night at Oxford Plains Speedway or watching NASCAR on television, it would always put a smile on his face. His children were always the highlight of his life and he will be sadly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Nancy (Lajoie) Panek of Augusta; two daughters: Amy Kilbreth and her husband Jeremy of Topsham and Kate Maddocks of Searsmont; a son, David Panek and his companion Brenda Garand of Vassalboro; his grandchild, Christopher Kilbreth and a former son-in-law, Bennie Maddocks as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may visit on Friday, October 12th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 13th at 11 AM. Burial and committal prayers will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to: Fox Glen Snowmobile Club, PO Box 4654, Augusta, ME, 04330.
