Obituary for Mary Eugenia "Jeanne" Hoyt

Hoyt, Mary Eugenia “Jeanne” (Bent) - 87, Central Onslow – It is with a heavy heart that the family of Mary Eugenia “Jeanne” Hoyt announce her passing peacefully on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at The Mira, Truro. Born in Bridgetown, she was the eldest daughter of Henrietta and Joseph Bent. Jeanne met the love of her life, Milton when he came to work on the dykes of the Annapolis Basin. They were married at her family home in 1947. Together they lived in Central Onslow and raised three children. Jeanne graduated from Success Business College in Halifax and was known for her excellence in spelling and grammar. She was a member of the Onslow United Church for over 60 years and a dedicated choir member. She held various positions in the Margaret Jean Lacey UCW group and was presented with a charter membership (pin and certificate). Jeanne was active in her children’s schools attending meetings and holding offices at Parade School. She taught Sunday School and was an Explorer leader. Jeanne was an avid gardener and could be seen driving her lawn tractor to keep the property immaculate. She is survived by daughter, Audrey (Martin) MacLean, Bible Hill; sons, Charles (Janet), Central Onslow, David (Alexa), Lower Onslow; grandchildren, Krista Benoit, Quebec, Kelly (Jody Lynch), New Brunswick, Jason Hoyt (Jacqueline), Valley, Taylor Hoyt, Lower Onslow, step-grandchildren, Scott MacLean (Cyndi), Truro, Shawn MacLean (Cindy), Enfield and Nicholas MacLean, Port Williams; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Bent (Murray), Phinney Cove, Annapolis Co. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton “Mike” Hoyt in 2010; sister, Margaret (Norman) Sollows. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 21 from 7-9 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro; funeral service on Monday, October 22 at 2 pm in Trinity United Church with Rev. Gerald Kerr officiating. Private interment in Robie Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Church.
