Mable I. Honeywell, 94, of Bronson, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with Rev. Bob Fansler and Pastor Harry Squires officiating. Interment will follow at Bronson Cemetery in her family plot. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011 from 2:00 P.M to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. Mable, the youngest of five children of Frank and Nettie (Garman) Honeywell, was born April 29, 1917 on the farm where she spent her entire life. She was born at the home across the road and moved to her present home in 1924. Mable attended the Bethel #7 (Cranson) School for eight years for her elementary education and graduated from Bronson High School in 1935. She furthered her education with correspondence courses in business from ITS. Mable was of a quiet nature in the earlier years of her life, a listener more than a talker. This changed in mid-life when she became associated with the public. Her first years of employment were at the Bronson Co-Operative Association and First National Bank in Bronson and Kerr Hardware in Coldwater, all of which are no longer in existence. Her longest employer was the Davis Company in Coldwater which too is no longer in existence. Lastly were Del Seat Builder and Seaman Office Supply. Mable attended the Bethel Congregational (Cranson) Church for many years and was an officer/member of it until its closing. Presently she attended the East Gilead Missionary Church. Mable became involved with the Branch County Historical Society when it was reorganized and has been active in that organization up until her death. She served on a committee that assisted in the publication of the two volumes of Branch County History. She held an active role on the board of the Michigan Centennial Farm Association for six years and was in part responsible for organizing the regional Centennial Farm organization which is still active. In 1977, Mable, brother Glenn and sister Mildred, organized and promoted the Branch County Folk Festival, an organization which interested visitors and participants from the tri-state area of Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. This continued for a period of nine years. In the meantime Mildred passed on and age and health reasons of the two remaining members prompted the discontinuation of that organization. In 1978 Mable was awarded the “Woman of the Year” citation by the Branch Area Chamber of Commerce for her selfless contributions to the county and community. In 1993 Mable and Glenn were recognized as the Michigan Centennial Farm Owner of the Year for their contributions to that organization and to farm preservation. In 2005 Mable was honored to be Grand Marshall of the 4-H Fair parade for her contribution of a farm museum to the county in memory of family members. Mable had a desire to do for others, a trait she inherited from other family members. For pleasure she enjoyed sewing and tatting and worked her crossword puzzles daily. Surviving is one niece, Janean Rubley, many great-nieces, great-nephews, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Maurice, Glenn and Frank Honeywell, a sister, Mildred Honeywell, nieces Luellen Wells and Ruth Mitchell, nephew Harold Honeywell and a great-nephew, Todd W. Rubley. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
