Elizabeth B. “Betty” Armstrong
Elizabeth B. “Betty” Armstrong , 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday (December 2, 2012) at McAuley Manor, where she had resided since July 2011. Betty was born in Bradford, PA on May 24, 1920.
Betty resided in the Hornell area most of her life. She was predeceased by her parents, Claire and Mary (Ahles) Breckenridge, as well as her sister Louise Breckenridge, her brother Paul Breckenridge and her granddaughter Laurie Puffer. Betty was also predeceased Lawrence A. Armstrong whom she was married to from 1938-1972.
Betty is survived by her daughter Mary Lou (Ken) Philbrick of Arkport, her two grandsons, Larry (Scott Miller) Philbrick of Arkport, Scott (Gina) Philbrick of Bellevue, WA, her grandson-in-law Rick Puffer of North Hornell, and her two great grandsons Ryan Puffer and Ian Philbrick-Miller.
Betty worked for the SCEOP program for several years and was also a member of the Josiah Griswold Chapter of the DAR and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #160. Betty enjoyed crocheting and knitting and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Funeral arrangements are with Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home 354 Canisteo Street Hornell NY 14843. Calling hours will be Friday from 1 to 3 pm at the funeral home. A Memorial service will be held immediately following the calling hours. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ceres Township, PA.
