Ronald Benshoff

Marcus, Iowa – Ronald D. Benshoff, 77, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2008 at the Church of the Nazarene in Le Mars, Iowa. Rev. Leonard Waller will officiate. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home Fellowship Room in Le Mars following the funeral. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Dawson Cemetery in Dawson, Iowa with military honors. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home of Marcus, Iowa with a prayer scheduled for 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral. Ronald Dean Benshoff was born on December 18, 1930 in Boone County, Iowa to George Sr. and Evadeana “Babe” (Worthy) Benshoff. He attended country school near his home. Ron was inducted into the United States Navy on January 8, 1951. He served during the Korean War on the USS Perry. Ron earned his honorable discharge and returned to the Boone area. On November 20, 1965 Ron and Ella Eckhart were united in marriage at Omaha, Nebraska. They made their home in Boone until 1967. Ron and Ella moved to Storm Lake, Iowa where Ron began his 25 year career in meat packing. He also worked as a deputy in Lakeside, Iowa. In 1987 Ron and Ella moved to Marcus, Iowa. Ron drove a truck over the road and a school bus in Marcus. He presently drove a bus for the Siouxland Regional Transit System, which he began in 2001. Ron was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Le Mars and the F.I. Goodburn Post 517 of the American Legion in Marcus. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and flying radio controlled airplanes with the Wings R/C Club in Le Mars. He was a child at heart and always had something fun to do with his children. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ella of Marcus, IA; sons Michael (Jenny) Olson of Sibley, IA, Charles (Audrey) Olson of London, AR, Keith Olson of Ames, IA; daughters Cherry (Robert) Molgaard of Ottawa, OH and Terry Jenson of Huron, SD; 18 grandchildren Deanna, Joe, Angela, Vicki, Jeremy, Jennifer, Mathew, Nathaniel; Lynette, Karen, Laura, Jonathan, Jamie, Adam, Megan, R.J., Kalei and Jacob; 12 great-grandchildren Jayd, Kyla, Makenna, Alison, Ella, John, Gabby, Jared, Ethan, Macie, Landon and Landon; brothers George (Peg) Benshoof Jr. of Mesa. AZ and Bill (Jeanette) Chambers of Humboldt, IA; sisters Darlene (Art) Steadman of Grand Junction, IA and Sandy (John) Hilding of Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister.
