Mr. Millard Thomas Kerns, age 68, 51 West Center Road, Rome, passed away Tuesday morning, December 18, 2012, in a local hospital. Mr. Kerns was born in Floyd County on February 14, 1944, son of the late Howard and Jewell Holcomb Kerns. He was also preceded in death by a son, Cody Shane Kerns in 2003. Mr. Kerns attended Pepperell High School and graduated from Coosa Valley Tech, now Georgia Northwestern Technical College. He was a master plumber and was employed for a number of years with Rome Plumbing and Air Conditioning Co. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #72 in Atlanta and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Kingston. Survivors include his wife, the former Martha Ann Marshall, to whom he was married on April 19, 1964; a son, Ken Kerns, and his wife, Rhonda, Ballground, GA; a sister, Mrs. Dianne Nichols, and her husband, Gary, Rome; 2 brothers, Wayne Kerns, and his wife, Pat, Rome, and Edward Kerns, Rome; 4 grandchildren, Lacy Kerns, Rome, Nathan Kerns, Allie Kerns, and Caroline Kerns, all of Ballground, GA; nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Branton, the Rev. Carl Etheridge, and the Rev. Franklin Towe officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence. Active and honorary pallbearers are requested to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Thursday at 1:30pm and are as follows: Active: Barnard Marshall, Gary Nichols, Justin Nichols, Danny Jolly, Dan Jolly, Steve Brock, Chad Thacker, and Charles Thacker. Honorary: Doug Kerns, Eddie Kerns, and Jack Stover. Henderson & Sons Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
