Charles George Obituary

Charles Franklin George, 82, of Weeks died Saturday, May 13, 2006. He was born December 27, 1923, son of the late Jennings Winegar and Geneva Pearl Dawson George and a lifelong member of Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church, Weeks. Mr. George served as a U. S. Navy pharmacists mate during World War II, and was deployed to Okinawa, Taiwan and the New Hebrides Islands. He was an employee of Humphreys Railway and later an engineer on Humphreys fish boats in Weems. For six years, he was employed at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. helping build the aircraft carrier “Enterprise”. Mr. George was also employed by Standard Products in Reedville and in later years before retiring was manager of Ampro Diesel in Weems. After retirement, he assisted with managing the soft crab operation at Morgan Seafood in Weems. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ada Louise George; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Carol and William C. Morgan of Weeks and Teresa Ione and John G. Willett, Jr. of Hartfield; four grandchildren, Elisa Moss Enoch, William Cranston Morgan, III, Bristol Lynn Draleau and Brandi Nicole Boles; four great grandchildren, Remy and Wells Enoch, Dillan Loving and Destiny Boles; a sister, Mary Etta Reeves of White Stone. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 at Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church, Weeks with Rev. Sandy McKelway officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were James Francis Davis, W. R. Davenport, Jr., Randy Reeves, William C. Morgan, III, Scott Howell Enoch and John F. Willett, Jr.
