CLIFTON PARK Doran W. Nelson, 89, of Peck Lane died Friday March 8, 2013 at Schuyler Ridge Health Care Center. Born and educated in Emerson North Dakota he was the son of the late Martin and Gertrude Dinehart Nelson. He had resided in Waterford from 1948 until 1976 when he moved to Clifton Park.
Doran was employed as an engineer by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady for over 40 years and retired in 1986. He was a veteran of the US Army-Air Corps and was a pilot on the Pacific Theatre of operations during World War II. After the war he re-enlisted in the US Air Force. He was a member of the 20th Century Club at General Electric and was a former member of the Cohoes-Waterford Lodge of Elks.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Lorraine Gabriel Nelson, his son Dan Joseph Nelson (Barbara) of Clifton Park his cherished grandson Adam Nelson of North Carolina as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday prior to the funeral from 9 to 10 a.m.
Those who wish may make contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home office.
