Ronald Newman, 64, of Bayville, died Friday, January 15, 2010 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Lakewood, he was a life-long resident of Berkeley Twp. He was a life member of the Bayville Fire Dept. for over 40 years, past chief, president and trustee. He also served on the Berkeley Twp. Planning Board. Ron was retired from the Berkeley Twp. Sewerage Authority where he worked as a system maintenance worker. In Ron's earlier years he worked for Berkeley machine Shop, a family owned and operated business. Ron's hobbies included boating, fishing and hunting. Ron was the beloved husband of Phyllis (nee Mastro) for 45 years and the beloved father of daughter Theresa Newman Laureigh and son Ronald and his wife Lori Newman. Ronald also was the beloved grandfather of Travis and Troy Laureigh and Joshua Watson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 18 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, O'Connell Chapel, 706 US Hwy. 9, Bayville, where funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 10 AM. Committal is private.
