Marcel A. Castonguay

Jay – Marcel A. Castonguay, age 51, a longtime resident of Jay, died peacefully on Saturday, May 4th at his home with his beloved family by his side. He was a man of great integrity, faith and patience, and he possessed a wonderful sense of humor and love of life. He was born on the 26th of July, 1961, the son of Andre C. and Marguerite (Legere) Castonguay. A 1979 graduate of Livermore Falls High School, he also studied in the Liberal Arts Program at the University of Maine at Farmington. He was a devoted parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where he also lectured, ministered the Eucharist, sang in the choir, and canted. He served the church as a Religious Education teacher (grades 2-12, since 1985) and received his Third Degree in the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed taking Communion to shut-ins and visiting at the nursing homes. Marcel was known as “Mr. C.” by many of his students and those who participated in sports, other activities and fund raising. His greatest accomplishments were giving the Jay High School football and basketball concessions makeovers, being manager for tennis and soccer, and captain for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life teams. He was happiest when he worked as a volunteer/student teacher with Mrs. Mary Sirois in the English Department at Jay High School. Marcel had great love for genealogy, reading, outdoor activities, music, singing and dancing. He is survived by his father, Andre Castonguay of Livermore Falls; his brother, Lucien, and his wife, Linda (Pray), and their children, Ezekiel, Elijah, Ethan, Eran, Emilia, Simeon, and Julia of Abington, Virginia; his brother, George, and his wife Denise( Fournier), and their daughter, Katelin, of Jay, his sister, Noella, and her husband, Raymond Loon, and their children, Ray, Brad, and Sierra and her companion, Grant Poulin of Turner; and his sister Celine, and her husband, Tom Gilbert, and their children, Marc and his wife, Ellen, Stephen, Phil and Hannah, of New Gloucester. He is also survived by his God-daughter, Amanda Castonguay; many uncles and aunts; and 55 cousins, their spouses, and their children. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, George and Bertha (Moreau) Castonguay and their young daughter, Bernadette Castonguay; his maternal grandparents, Leo and Rose (Breton) Legere and their young son, Lucien Legere; his beloved mother, Marguerite; his uncles, Romeo St. Pierre, Emile St. Pierre, and Albert St. Pierre and his aunts, Claire (Dubord) Castonguay and Alice (St.Pierre) Castonguay.
