DETLOR, Harold A. U.E. – Passed away at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Thursday March 12th, 2009 at the age of 82. Born on July 28th, 1926 in Niagara Falls and was a resident his whole life. Beloved husband of Mary Helen (Sorley) for 60 years. Loving father of Linda M. Detlor-Cross (Robert) of Virgil and Thomas H. of Vancouver. He is survived by his sister Marion Holman (Jim) of Fenwick, brother Lorne Detlor (Julie) of Niagara Falls, sister-in-law Alice Detlor (late Hugh) of Niagara Falls. He is also survived by brother-in-law Jack Sorley (Margaret) of Niagara Falls, sister-in-law Carla Sorley (the late James) of Maple Heights, Ohio, sister-in-law Betty Sorley (the late Alexander) of Niagara Falls. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Archibald Detlor and Bessie (Stephenson) and step-sister Margaret Wood Patterson all of Niagara Falls. Harold served 2 years in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. He was devoted as a leader for 60 years in the Scouting Movement at 1st Niagara Scout Group. He received the bar for Silver Acorn of Scouting in 2008, the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 and the City of Niagara Falls Volunteer Award in 2007. He was an avid bowler, curler and golfer. He was a member of the John Butler Branch of the U.E.L. of Canada and the Niagara Classic Mustang Club. Sincere thanks to the paramedics, ER Staff and ICU Staff of GNGH for their compassion, kindness and support. Thank you also to Tony and Ivy Roberts for their assistance and for being there. Thanks also to the Rev. Lynne Corfield of St. John’s Anglican Church for her support and kindness. The family will receive friends at the MORSE & SON CHAPEL of the MORGAN FUNERAL HOMES, 5917 Main Street, Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel Thursday at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the 1st Niagara Scout Group - Leeming Street or the Niagara Scout Museum – Fourth Avenue would be appreciated.
