Kurt Meyer Obituary

Kurt A. Meyer, husband of Teri Dominello Meyer, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut New Britain Campus unexpectedly after complications of a recent illness. Born in Meriden on August 31, 1943, he was the son of the late Erna and William H. Meyer, Sr. Mr. Meyer was a lifelong Meriden resident. He graduated from Platt High School in 1961 and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Quinnipiac University. Mr. Meyer received his Master’s Degree from Southern Connecticut State University and a sixth year degree from Central Connecticut State University. He was employed as a teacher at the Wallace Middle School in Waterbury, retiring after 34 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, and also a member of the Meriden Rod and Gun Club and the Meriden Elks Club #35. Mr. Meyer was an avid fisherman and pheasant hunter and enjoyed golf, gardening and woodworking. He was always ready to lend a hand. Mr. Meyer was a fan of the New York Yankees, the UConn Huskies Women’s basketball team and the Washington Redskins football team. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visited many points of interest in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean. For the past 25 years, they enjoyed annual trips to Aruba. Last year they enjoyed a tour of Italy. Besides his wife Teri, he is survived by a brother William H. Meyer, Jr. and his wife Shirley of South Carolina. He is also survived by a niece, Jessica Meyer of South Carolina; a nephew, Scott Meyer and his wife Erica of Long Island, NY; a great-niece, Trinity Meyer; and three great-nephews Sebastian, Bryce and Blake Meyer. Additional survivors are a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia (Dominello) and Robert A. Frederick, Sr. of Middletown; a niece, Mary Ellen Pellman and her husband Mark C., Sr. of Florida; a nephew, Robert A. Frederick, Jr. and his wife Christine of Granby; a niece, Gail Petras and her husband Scott of Middletown; a great-nephew, Mark C. Pellman, Jr.; and two great-nieces, Marisa and Samantha Frederick. He also leaves several cousins. Other survivors include special friends Frank and Mary Vuolo of Watertown. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Vincent T. Dominello and Sue DeMaria Dominello. He will be sadly missed by his English cocker spaniel “Lancer.” The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11 am at John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT 06450. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 3 to 7 pm, and on Wednesday morning prior to the service from 10 to 11 am.
