Shirley Ann Pike, 81, formerly of Lancaster, KS died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Atchison Medicalodge. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 26th, 2013 at the Atchison United Methodist Church with Rev. Cynthia Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Saturday, May 25th at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the United Methodist Church and may be sent to the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com. Shirley was born on Feb. 11, 1932 in Harden County, Iowa the 10thout of 12 children of Elvin and Marie (Hamre) Benshoof. She graduated from Atchison High School and had worked as a teacher’s aide at Effingham Middle School, had worked at the Lancaster Lumber Yard and had formerly been an associate pastor for the First Christian Church, Atchison, KS. Shirley was a member of the Atchison United Methodist Church, was a past member of the Farmington Unit; was a 4-H Cooking and Food Preservation leader, and the Christian Women’s Club. She was a founding member of the Atchison Hospice, and the Senior Citizens Group at the Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Methodist Women’s sewing group and enjoyed sewing for her family, doing genealogy, playing solitaire on the computer, and playing rummy with her loving husband “Bud”. She had well over 100 pictures of her family in her living room, and was famous for her whole dill pickles. Shirley was married to Warren H. “Bud” Pike on Feb. 10, 1952 at the Farmington Christian Church. Mr Pike survives of the home in Lancaster. Additional survivors include; a daughter; Carole (Jim) Wood, Liberty, MO., two brothers: Lewis Benshoof, Little Point, OR, and Melvin Benshoof, Atchison, KS., three sisters: Arlene Knott, Iowa Falls, IA; Betty Rosenberry, Savoy, IL; and Beverly Ramsey, Wheatland CA., eleven grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren. Her parents, two sons: Danny Pike (Sept. 86) and Dennis Pike (Nov. 2008), daughter: Jeannine Elmore (Aug, 1988), four brothers and two sisters, preceded her in death.
