Carolyn Strong Obituary

Carolyn M. Strong, 66, of Rushville, IL entered into eternal life Monday morning, May 27, 2013 at the Culbertson Memorial Hospital. She was born Tuesday, January 21, 1947 in Erie, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents the late Steve J. & Helen Victorski Mihalovic. Carolyn married the late Honorable Arthur R. Strong on Saturday, August 6, 1983 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughter, Ashley Strong, of Erie & Rushville and her sister, Janet A. Mihalovic and brother-in-law, Rex E. Andrews of Rushville as well as several aunts and many cousins. She graduated from St. Benedict Academy in 1964 and studied Hotel/Restaurant Management at Mercyhurst College. She pursued a career in Hotel/Restaurant Management at Holiday Inn/Oakdale Corp. and the Erie Hilton until her marriage in 1983. After Carolyn moved to Rushville she worked on behalf of the Culbertson Memorial Hospital raising funds for the Russell R. Dohner Medical Arts Building. She was previously Executive Director for the Phoenix Opera House and currently enjoyed seasonal employment at Boehm’s Lawn & Garden Center. Carolyn was a member of various organizations, including P. E. O. Illinois Chapter AL, serving as president from 2010 – 2012, the Springfield Symphony Guild, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She served on the Board of Directors for the Schuyler Counseling and Health Service and on the Schuyler County Community Foundation as President. She was a member of P.R.I.D.E. and a past board member of the Sarah D. Culbertson Memorial Hospital Board. Carolyn loved gardening, helping out in the community, and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to prayer services there on Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Boniface Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will be in Mount of Olives Cemetery.
