Obituary for Richard C. MacGowan

CHELMSFORD – Richard C. MacGowan, 86, a resident of Chelmsford, and former resident of Andover and former longtime resident of Laconia, NH, died Sunday August 18, 2013 at the Atrium in North Chelmsford. He was the beloved husband of Leona (Gillespie) MacGowan who died in September 2012 after 62 years of marriage. He was born in Lowell on July 23, 1927 and was the son of the late Harry and Doris (Payton) MacGowan. Richard was a graduate of Lowell High School and Bentley School of Accounting. He was employed by the Lowell Institution for Savings and later by Andover Bank, retiring after nearly 40 years in the banking industry. He was a past President of the Greater Lawrence YMCA and served on the Finance Committee in the Town of Andover. He was also past President of the Paugus Bay Racquet Club Condominium Association in Laconia, NH. Richard is survived by two sons, Bradford MacGowan and his longtime partner, Deborah Westaway of Chelmsford, and Paul MacGowan and his longtime partner Tanya Repnikova of South Burlington, VT; and many friends. Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on Wednesday from 10 to 11 am, followed by his Funeral Service at 11 o’clock at the funeral home. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery in Lowell. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Richard’s name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777 or to Quilts for Kids Nepal at quiltsnepal.org.
