Daniel Rhoda

Daniel Rhoda Text

HOULTON - On Friday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2013, Daniel Patrick Rhoda left this world, too soon and with so much more left to do for others. Born April 6, 1977, Daniel was the son of Richard and Cecilia Rhoda and the brother of Leslie R. Rhoda II. Raised in Houlton, he always embraced that small town sense of community and adhered to the values of family, friends and community. His concern for others, whether on the streets of New York City or on his beloved island of Kauai, Hawaii, was one of his finest attributes. Daniel was a 1995 graduate of Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts and graduated summa cum laude from Bowdoin College in 1999 after doing his junior year of college at the London School of Economics. He received his MA in Transpersonal Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, Calif., in 2011 and was in the process of commencing his PhD clinical requirements at Sovereign Health in Los Angeles as well as starting his doctoral thesis research at the Deepak Chopra Center in Carlsbad, Calif. After his college graduation, Daniel Worked on Wall Street with Credit Suisse/First Boston for two years. He then moved to Kauai, Hawaii, where he became involved with the Institute for Holistic Medicine and Research and where he studied the clinical application of Ayurveda and was privileged to be personally mentored by Dr. Tom Yarema who became a close friend and by Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar with whom Daniel studied and qualified as an Ayurveda practitioner. In addition, Daniel, Dr. Yareina and Chef Johnny Branigan collaborated as authors of the best selling book ""Eat.Taste.Heal"" with a primary focus on the art of Ayurvedic healing and holistic living. Subsequently, Daniel was instrumental in creating Five Elements Consulting, LLC which provides private Ayurvedic consultations, teaching, public speaking and nutritional consultations. Just recently, Daniel stated that ""I attract good things into my life"" which is evidenced by his many close and long standing friendships, just to mention a few, Joe Ulmschneider who was a second brother to Daniel and Tsega Abera, both of whom were of tremendous support to Daniel within the last two weeks; James Matthews of Florida; India Johnson formerly of Houlton; Kim Miller – his ""house Mom"" and mentor from Hawaii; Tim Baird; Rahul Bajaj; Jason Rachlin, treasured college friends; Jericho Panasuk of Hawaii; Dr. Tom; Dr. Suhas; Hayes MacArthur and wife, Ali; and Elliot Anderson and wife, Dallis, for whom Dan was the godfather to their precious daughter, Tilly and favorite ""uncle"" to their two other children, Lottie and Harlan. Daniel was predeceased by his grandparents, Les and Ellen Rhoda and Grandpere Cyril Beaulieu; and uncles, Donald Greene and Alfred Beaulieu. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Cecilia Rhoda; brother, Les; grandmother, Agnes Beaulieu of Madawaska; aunt, Claudette Greene of Greenwich, Conn.; uncle and aunt, John and Wanda Beaulieu of Annandale, Va.; uncle and aunt, Daniel and Kathy Beaulieu of San Francisco; aunt, Elizabeth Beaulieu of Bangor; and cousins, Charlie and Jody Greene, John Charles Beaulieu, Michele Hopper, and Sara and Philip Beaulieu. Daniel was also predeceased by his favorite cat, ""Fluffy,"" a stray kitten found by him when eight years old. In lieu of flowers, please remember Daniel by stopping to aid that person or child who needs help but whom you may have otherwise passed by. A meal, some clothing or perhaps a kind word of caring concern and continuing to do this a second or third time this would be your finest remembrance and acknowledgment of the life-path that Daniel sought to travel. Contributions may also be made in memory of Daniel to the Houlton Community Performing Arts Center, P.O. Box 743, Houlton, ME 04730. Calling hours will be held noon-2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the First Baptist Church, Houlton, with a celebration of Daniel's life to follow at 2 p.m. A private family interment will be held at Houlton's Evergreen Cemetery at sunset. A vibrant and brilliant light has been extinguished in our world but will continue to burn brightly forever in our hearts. Love you, Son.
