Ronald E. Hostler, 80 Ronald Earl Hostler, 80 of Ashland passed away, early Friday morning, September 13, 2013 in his home with his wife by his side. He was born on December 7, 1932 to the late Earl V. and Elizabeth A. (nee Yeater) Hostler in Ashland. Ron graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1950. Following high school, he furthered his education and attended Ashland College. In 1954 he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Education. He later completed his Master’s Degree of Curriculum in Education from Ashland University. He married the love of his life, the former Martha Taylor on July 23, 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Haddonfield, New Jersey. Ron retired after more than 30 years of teaching. He started his teaching career in Polk and later went on teach at Plymouth. Ron educated many students both in and out of the classroom. His career would not be complete without his years of coaching basketball. In Ron’s early years at Polk, following his student teaching, he was successful at turning the basketball program around and coached several winning teams. While at Plymouth he also served as High School Men’s Basketball Coach and not only won several league championships, but also several tournaments. When he accepted a position at Ashland City Schools in 1971, he became the assistant high school men’s basketball coach and later became head ladies high school basketball coach. Ron was instrumental with the program for many years, until his retirement from Ashland in 1986. Following his years teaching in public education, Ron went on to teach an additional ten years at his alma mater, Ashland University as an adjunct professor in Education which lead to his official retirement in 2000. Ron enjoyed playing golf with his sons and golfing on Brookside’s Seniors League. Over the years, he spent countless hours watching Ohio State, the Cleveland Indian’s and the Cleveland Browns with his family and his canine companion, “Recess”. In his earlier years, after teaching school, he enjoyed playing ping pong and tennis with his colleagues. He and his wife are devoted members of the Christ United Methodist Church, where they were charter members of their Sunday school class, New Beginning’s and where he served on several committees. Ron leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years of marriage, Mrs. Martha Hostler of Ashland; two sons, Doug Hostler of Ashland and Don (Karen) Hostler of Westerville; two granddaughters that he adored, Jennifer Hostler of New York, New York and Kelsey Hostler of Westerville; one sister, Connie DeLong of Amherst; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Kathro) Taylor of Green Lake, Wisconsin and Richard (Diana) Taylor of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bruce DeLong; sister-in-law, Barbara Jones and her husband, Leo; and his mother and father-in-law, Paul and Gladys Taylor. Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home with Reverend James Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call, Tuesday, September 17, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church, 1140 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, OH 44805 or to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, OH 44805.
