Obituary for Elva J. Ross

Elva J. “Jean” Ross, 88, of Sunset Park Place and formerly of 2341 Coventry Park, passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 at Stonehill Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at Summit Congregational UCC. Private family burial will be at a later date. Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until time of services Monday at the church.



Jean was born on July 31, 1924 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of John A. and Elva (Pauley) Cameron. She married John C. Ross on May 21, 1944. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2000. Jean owned and operated Flowerama in East Moline, Illinois from 1979 until 1982. She was an active member of Summit Congregational UCC and loved to travel and spend time with her family.



Surviving are her children, Michael (Barbara) Ross of Asbury, Iowa and Kim (Harry) Thomason of Topeka, Kansas; her grandchildren, Katie (Jeremy) Bechen, Sara (Eric) Davis and Erin and Adam Berg, Heather (Bryan) Ruhter and Jeremy (Nicole) Thomason; her great grandchildren, Ben and Briel Bechen, Emily and Megan Ruhter and Justin and Jacob Thomason.



She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, 2 sons: John Thomas and Jeffrey Lynn; her brother, Kenneth Cameron.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Summit Congregational UCC.

The Ross family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Stonehill Care Center, Hospice of Dubuque, and Sunset Park Place for their care and support.
