Norma Jensen Obituary

Norma Wilson Jensen—wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother and friend—went to be with her Lord and Savior on Christmas morning as a result of a long battle with cancer. What an appropriate day, her favorite day of the year and a beautiful morning in Temecula, California. She sought Jesus with all her heart, each day drawing closer to Heaven. Norma was born May 12, 1926, in Glendive, Montana, to parents Grant and Alice Wilson. They farmed and ranched near the town of Bloomfield, Montana. When she was 12, she moved to Seattle and spent her teenage years loving the excitement of the city, which included her favorite pastime—dancing to big band music. She loved the ocean, as well as the mountains and waters surrounding Puget Sound. She married Soren Peter Jensen on August 28, 1946, in Seattle, Washington, and soon after moved to Circle, Montana. Norma and Pete spent their lives raising a family and building their ranch in Circle, Montana, known as Cottonwood Ranch. Coming back to Eastern Montana from Seattle provided a new perspective and ideas that were instrumental in the startups of the McCone Electric Cooperative, Mid-Rivers Telephone Cooperative, and the McCone County Credit Union. Other entrepreneurial ventures included Norma’s participation in the University of Montana’s Kellogg Program to advance the understanding and importance of agriculture in local and global communities. Throughout her life, she was involved in a variety of activities in support of her husband and 4 children (e.g., 4-H, FHA, music, sports), organizations (e.g., Christian Women's Club), church, and Bible studies. Norma loved life and made the best of every moment. Her family was her greatest joy. She saw the beauty in everyone and everything and made the person she was with at each moment most important. She made her relationships with God, her family, and friends her priority. She had a most amazing sense of humor—keeping us entertained with her clever play on words. She loved reading, playing the piano, card games with friends and family, and dancing, and she had a strong appreciation for theater, plays, and musicals. She loved to create textile art and delicious cuisine. She passed this love on to her family by encouraging them to develop their skills and interests and was always open and curious about new ideas. As a result, Norma’s warm and friendly nature was always welcoming to all people. Norma loved to travel. She and Pete traveled the world and, as a result, had this amazing capacity to connect with other people, learn, and share new knowledge with family and friends. She saw life as a journey where each day was a new beginning full of wonder. She also recognized the importance of past history in shaping our future and reconnected it with her family stories. When Norma and Pete turned 60, they started spending their winter months in Silver Lakes, California, and late spring to late fall in Circle. They were very involved in church and community activities in both their homes and built incredible friendships. Norma is survived by her loving husband and best friend Pete ("Peta" to her) for 67 years; 4 children–daughter Wendy Wood of Montclair, California; daughter Marli (Gianni) Calabrese of Temecula, California; son Dale (Laura) Jensen of Olympia, Washington; and son Kenny (Jamie) Jensen of Denver, Colorado; 12 grandchildren: Dario (Danielle), Shauna, Annamaria (Brad), Reno, Zac, Brendan, Caitlin (Andrew), Kelli (Tyler), Jessica (Bede), Brian, Ben, Bailey; and 5 great-grandchildren: Sofia, Brayden, Luca, Catalina, and Jonah. We will miss you! There will be a memorial service at Grace Bible Church on January 11, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., 27083 Strawberry Lane, Helendale, CA 92342. Another service will be held in Circle, Montana, in the summer. Information for the Montana celebration will be provided at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Norma W.
