Mr. Mac Roger Clifton, 73, a well-known resident of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Johnston Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Mac was born in the Greendale community on January 26, 1941 to the late Paul and Effie South Clifton. He was a lifelong member of Abingdon Baptist Church.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many days fishing. He especially enjoyed fishing in Florida during the winter months.
Mac owned several health care businesses, assisted living facilities and Clifton-Stewart Developers. He had numerous good and faithful employees that contributed to the success of his businesses. He believed “a good name is more desirable than great riches to be esteemed is better than silver or gold” Proverbs 22:1 and was loved by all who knew him.
Mac leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 53 years Carol; son, Roger Clifton; daughter, Paula Mullins and husband Reno; grandchildren, Amanda Sills and husband Chad, Samantha Kestner and husband Josh, Josh Stewart, and Taylor Stewart; great-grandchildren Noah and Gracynn Sills and Montana Stewart; sister, Beatrice Jones and husband Jim, niece, Reda Jones; several great nieces and nephews; his beloved business partner, Jimmy Stewart and “Fishing Buddy” Bill Stevens.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 W. Main St., Abingdon, with Dr. Steven W. Pollard officiating. Interment will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, March 5, at Abingdon Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Billy Stevens, Rick Boyd, Kevin Austin, Dickie Kegley, Kenny Long, Jimmy Stewart, Billy Stewart, Josh Stewart and Noah Sills.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society- College Against Cancer, 910 West Watauga Ave. #308A, Johnson City, TN, 37604, in memory of Mr. Mac Roger Clifton.
