Jeffrey Mottern

Jeffrey Mark Mottern, 62, of Hummelstown, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014. A direct descendant of John Harris, Jeffrey was born in Johnstown on December 28, 1951; he was the son of Delmar Q. and Elizabeth Janisak Mottern of Johnstown. Jeffrey was an attorney. He was a 1969 graduate of Richland High School, Johnstown, where he was a state champion wrestler and football player; and held the state javelin record. Jeffrey then graduated from Dickinson College & Law School. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Jeffrey was a former board member of the Humane Society, East Shore Shelter, Harrisburg, and the Hummelstown Library. Jeffrey loved all of his schnauzer dogs, especially his new baby, Xander. In addition to his parents, Jeffrey is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Susan Dunkle Mottern, whom he married on December 17, 1972; his siblings, Kathleen Mottern of Burtonsville, MD, Barbara Stephenson wife of Lester of Johnstown, and Dr. Richard Mottern husband of Nina of Fairport, NY; his sisters-in-law, Linda D. Orsini wife of Dr. Michael Orsini of Sewickley, and Beth E. Krick wife of Todd Krick of Palmyra; and several nieces and nephews. A private celebration of Jeffrey’s life will be held at the convenience of his family. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Susquehanna Service Dogs, 124 Pine Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, 120 G Street NW, Suite 700, Washington D.C. 20005.
