Guy West Calgary, Alberta Obituary

Guy West

Guy "Roger" West September 24, 1935 - December 3, 2017 Guy “Roger” West passed away on December 3, 2017 at the age of 82. Roger is lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Betty; his children Karen (Barry), Shannon, Guy (Cecelia) and Tracey; his grandchildren Jackie-Lynne (Paul), David (Christina), Julie, Amanda, Kimberley and Daniel; and his great-grandchildren Jake, Conner, Grace, Elise, and Dane. Roger was predeceased by his daughter Sharon. Roger was born September 24, 1935 in Strathmore, Alberta. He obtained his medical degree in 1964 and went on to be a well respected neurologist and Chief of Medicine at the Calgary General Hospital and Peter Lougheed Centre. He retired from medicine in 2000. Roger enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, curling, woodworking, walking his dog, travel, reading, gardening, and music. He loved the farm where he was raised, helping with family construction projects both big and small, and later on with helping his grandson with harvest. Many years ago, we found a poem that will always keep Dad close to our hearts: When Daddy signs his name He always writes “MD”. That’s so people all will know that he belongs to me. For “MD” means My Daddy, or something just the same. And that is why he always puts these letters on his name. Some letters on his name are small, but these are not you see. He always writes them big like that, Because he’s proud of me. There will be no public funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to contribution to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice. To view and share photos, condolences and stories of Roger please visit www.choicememorial.com. MISS ME BUT LET ME GO When I come to the end of the road, And the sun has set for me; I want no rites in a gloom filled room, Why cry for a soul set free. Miss me a little, but not too long, And not with your head bowed low; Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me, but let me go. For this is a journey that we all must take, And each must go alone It’s all a part of the master’s plan, A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick at heart, Go to the friends that we know; And busy your sorrows in doing good deeds, Miss me, but let me go.
