It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Rose McKenzie on June 15, 2019, at the age of 94 years. Rose served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and was a private secretary to the Commanding Officer. She met the love of her life and best friend, Bill (William) McKenzie, through her friend who had a twin brother, Bill. They were married in 1949 and were happily married for 58 years. They had four children. Rose was a gentle, sweet soul, with great inner strength that touched the hearts of many. She loved gardening, sewing/crafts and cooking. She also enjoyed music and loved to sing around the house. She grew up in a musical family and passed on her love of music to her children. The words that sum up Rose’s life would be family, love of nature, involvement in the church and volunteering within the community. Left to cherish Rose’s memory are her three children, Diane McKenzie-Desmarais (David), Glen McKenzie (Carol) and Bonnie Edwards; grandchildren, Michael Mahoney, Melanie Edwards (Tyler) and Shawn Mahoney (Jen); great-grandchildren, Brodie and Paige Mahoney; and her friends at Canterbury Foundation Senior Residence. She is predeceased by her husband, Bill (William) McKenzie; son, David William McKenzie; siblings, Isabelle, Clayton, Vern, Doris, and Archie; and parents, Beulah Vern McWilliams and Ernest McWilliams. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of the Edmonton General Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they provided to our Mother and us during this difficult time. At Rose’s request, no formal service will be held. After cremation, Rose would like an intimate, private grave side gathering with her immediate family at Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to place her urn and be reunited with her husband, Bill and her son, David.
