Gale Alexander Fester Edmonton, Alberta Obituary

Gale Alexander Fester

Gale Alexander Fester born August 11th 1938. Pre-deceased to parents Elsie Lee and Jack Fester, sister June Jackson and brother Don Foster. Survived by his wife Helen Fester and daughter Ashley Gale Fester. It is with our deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Gale. Sunday morning God took him by the hand and lead him to heaven. A handsome jock, a true selfless gentleman, present until the final hour with his loving wife Helen and daughter Ashley by his side. Gale had a life of adventure; he travelled the world and loved to hunt for antiques. Gale started his athletic career playing football for Eastglen High School, Class of ’57. Upon graduation he was recruited by the Canadian Junior Football League to play for the Edmonton Wildcats. In no time Rugby became a way of life. He played for the Tigers until the age of 40 and won the silver medal at the Masters in 2005. Gale loved nature and was considered by the community as, “The Bird-man of the Highlands”. He was also a talented landscape artist. He started his career in Human Resources at AGT (Telus) spending 34 years there before taking early retirement at the age of 52. His next chapter, lead him to become a Realtor. During that time he also partnered-up with his wife Helen to open Chickies Antiques; his flair was breathing new life into the old. He used his inventiveness to reinvigorate classic pieces of furniture for over 20 years garnering the accolade, One of Canada’s Best Vintage Furniture Hunting Spots. He only saw the best in everyone. His sense of humor was full of wit and charm. This generous kind loving man requested no funeral, but instead a celebration of his life. Left to mourn this great loss are the loves of his life: his wife Helen and daughter Ashley along with the Foster, Jackson, Bogowicz, and Zaprawa families. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the heath-care professionals that supported him during this trying time. We express our gratitude to friends and family for the joy they brought him. Leaving all of us with his daily words: let your hearts be joyful and for my sake - love one another. His genuine love for people meant understanding that everyone had their faults and should always be shown the purest love and compassion. Gale saw us all as equals, one in the same person. We were blessed to know him. God gave us the greatest gift. He was THE best father, friend and husband anyone could ask for. Gale, you are our sunshine. Celebration of life: August 11th 2015. 5:30pm – 10pm. Ellerslie Rugby Clubhouse 11004 Ellerslie Road SW.
